In the first part of the thesis, characteristics (physical, environmntal, quantity and quality of prey) of favourable food patches and reference plots inside the Dipper´s territories were examined. In the second part, correlations of prey (quantity and quality) characteristics and physical-environmental characteristics were examined. In the third part, correlations between single types of observed Dipper behaviour were examined. In the fourth part, correlations between characteristics (physical, environmntal, quantity and quality of prey) of food patches and observed time of the Dipper´s foraging behaviour were examined. In the fifth part of the thesis, correlations between the territory characteristics (physical, environmntal, quantity and quality of prey) and body measurements of single birds were examined.
Food security and staple crops

Nowadays, with growing population especially in developing countries, hunger and poverty are a huge problem. To reduce or eliminate hunger and poverty, the concept of food security was introduced. This concept describes an ideal situation to be reached. The first part of my work introduces this concept and introduces four basic pillars of food security. Food security is closely related crops, so the second part of my work focuses on selected staple crops that play a role in realizing the food security concept. These crops are rice, corn, potatoes and wheat. The concept will be fulfilled when all four pillars are met simultaneously. There are many obstacles in the way, from economic to climate ones. Changes need to be adapted whether through change in agriculture (more mechanization and electrification) or by improving the conditions of the farmers themselves. Improving the infrastructure will allow the consumer base to be broadened and thus revenue increased. The result is that everything depends on the crops themselves which have the potential to eliminate hunger. In the beginning, it is important to select a seed, to grow a crop that can provide income and that will not grow at the expense of farmers' livelihoods. Phenotypic plasticity of selected species of aquatic insects

Phenotypic plasticity is the ability of the single genotype to pruduce multiple phenotypes in response to evironmental conditions. There are many factors affecting phenotypic plasticity. The aim of this thesis is to summarize the current knowledge of phenotypic plasticity of aquatic insects with emphasis on the role of temperature and food availability. The review is complemented by a laboratory experiments designed to investigate the effect of temperature and food availability on growth and development rate of diving beetle Acilius canaliculatus (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae). The results are discussed in the light of the ecological concepts of temperature-size rule and developmental isomorphy.
